BHD Storage Solutions: Shuttle racking – project delivery

Recently BHD Storage were tasked with providing a high density storage solution. Their client in Brisbane was fast running out of storage space, and needed to store approx. 300 pallets into an area 175m2.

BHD’s solution was to manufacture & install an electronic shuttle rack system – the first for BHD Storage Solutions Australia.

“The system is 4 pallets wide, 4 pallets high, 28 metres long, storing both 1400mm & 1200mm depth pallets. To store this many pallets in a standard system would have required an area of approx. 435m2, so we achieved a floor space saving of 60 per cent,” Jason Lovett, Sales Consultant at BHD said.

The shuttle storage system uses shuttle carts to move independently within the rack itself, meaning forklifts are no longer needed to reach inside of storage lanes. The operator performs all of the procedures for the storing and extracting of pallets using a remote control, which minimises their exposure to risky conditions and helps to avoid accidents and injuries.

This particular system is designed to be used either First-In-Last-Out (FILO) or First-In-First-Out (FIFO), and continuous loading/unloading functions can be utilised to automate the process even further.

“The client is very happy with the system, and may look to add more lanes in the future! Great work to all those involved with this project,” Jason concluded.
